The SSS Academic Coordinator is responsible to the TRIO Director.&nbsp; The primary purpose is to recruit, counsel, arrange tutoring, and other academic services for eligible DSCC students who are first generation college and/or low-income students.&nbsp;
Duties and Responsibilities:
<ul>
<li>Participate, along with the SSS staff, in the recruitment of participants that are first generation and/or low income or have a disability.</li>
<li>Develop and complete individual plans for each participant and update as needed.</li>
<li>Provide counseling in careers, academics, financial aid, and personal matters as needed.</li>
<li>Responsible for monitoring and recording each participant’s academic progress.</li>
<li>Provide participants assistance on college enrollment, financial aid, scholarships, and FAFSA.</li>
<li>Provide students assistance in transferring to a four-year institution.&nbsp; Conduct on-site visits to four-year institutions for students that are going to transfer.</li>
<li>Manage participant files to document academic, social counseling, college preparation, tutoring, college enrollment, follow-up, and tracking.</li>
<li>Assist the Academic Specialist with tutoring schedule when needed.</li>
</ul>
Required Qualifications:
<ul>
<li>Demonstrates knowledge in working with a variety of disadvantaged populations, especially high school and college students, and their respective instructors and staff for one to three years.</li>
<li>Ability to work well with teenagers and instructors.</li>
<li>Interpersonal skills to identify, recruit, and provide services to SSS participants.</li>
<li>Understanding and knowledge of academic curriculum that will lead students to postsecondary school completion.</li>
<li>Knowledge of postsecondary enrollment requirements, scholarship requirements, financial aid and FAFSA.</li>
<li>Ability to provide counseling or able to make necessary referrals when needed.</li>
<li>Written skills to maintain accurate records.</li>
<li>Basic computer skills.</li>
</ul>
Working Conditions:
Travel may be required for college tours.&nbsp; The Academic Coordinator should be able to after hours if a student need arises.&nbsp; Working conditions will include office work and group trips for college visits.
Minimum Requirements of Education and Experience:
<ul>
<li>Bachelor’s degree required</li>
</ul>
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
<ul>
<li>Master’s Degree in counseling, education, or related field is preferred.</li>
<li>Experience working with a diverse population.</li>
</ul>
Minimum starting salary is $40,600 annually ($20.82 per hour). With additional experience pay increases to a maximum of $50,700.

Dyersburg State Community College invites applicants for Health Information Management adjunct instructors for day, evening, and online classes held in Dyersburg, Covington, Paris, or at one of our other off-campus centers. Initial assignment may be at one of our teaching locations, but the official work station assignment may change each semester. The successful applicant will become certified and fully use the course management system (eLearn) for all classes. The applicant will also attend required meetings, report attendance, early alert notifications, and final grades prior to the established deadline, and will communicate curriculum and personnel needs or changes as appropriate to their assigned chair/dean. This position reports to the Chair of Business &amp; Technology and the Dean of Arts, Sciences, &amp; Technologies.
Requirements of the Position
Duties and Responsibilities: Teach assigned courses for discipline in Covington, Dyersburg, and/or Paris; prepare course materials; evaluate student learning, maintain class records, and submit required reports on time.
Working Conditions: Sedentary: Desk work; occasional travel may be required for college or program activities. Insignificant effort other than normal movement. Minimal Hazard/Exposure: Standard office settings. At least minimal environment controls to assure health and comfort.
Required Qualifications:
Transfer courses: Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with 18 graduate semester hours in Health Information Management required.
Non-transfer courses: Bachelor’s degree with previous teaching experience or graduate work required.
Ability to communicate effective with students and other college personnel required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred.
