Assistant Professor in HistoryThe History Department at the University of Texas at El Paso invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of History focusing on 20th and 21st century Black History.We invite applications from scholars with a wide range of interests, including, but not limited to, subjects such medicine and public health, migration, Afro-Latino, gender and/or Black women's history, history of sexuality, political history, or intellectual history. While the candidate's scholarly research interests do not solely have to focus on African American or US history, the candidate is required to teach Intro to African American history, and the History of the US, 1865-Present survey and preferably an African History course and Intro to African Diasporic Studies.The successful candidate should have a robust research agenda, ideally involving borderlands, transnational migrations, or global perspectives that will strengthen our PhD program. The department is known internationally for its doctoral program in Borderlands history. This program, which has about 35 students, capitalizes on our location on the U.S.-Mexico border, and encompasses both conceptual and comparative borderlands in global context. Director of Orchestral ActivitiesThe College of Liberal Arts and the Department of Music at The University of Texas at El Paso invite applications and nominations for the position of Director of Orchestral Activities. This is a 100%-time, tenure/tenure-track, position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.Job responsibilities include but not limited to:• Conduct the UTEP Symphony Orchestra;• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in conducting and music literature;• Oversee the orchestra program, including all aspects of the orchestra budget;• Serve as lead recruiter for the UTEP orchestra program and actively engage with local orchestra directors and ensembles;• Develop and expand outreach opportunities in the regional K-12 school system to further nurture the musical talent of El Paso students while recruiting students to attend UTEP;• Engage in collegial participation in departmental, college, and university activities and governance; and• Maintain a high profile as a conductor and clinician through regional, state, national, and international ensemble performances, conference presentations, and guest conducting activities.Appointment Date: Fall 2025Job Requirements:M.M. with documented experience and record of success as an orchestral conductor and educator in professional, collegiate, or scholastic settings. D.M.A. preferred. The ideal candidate will have strong pedagogical skills and demonstrate success in program administration, curriculum development, and recruitment. Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills are essential.
